SYNOPSIS:

Exceptionally rare whale sightings, mass unexplained whale strandings, great white populations under threat from Orca predation and Minke whales blocking harbors in Norway... something seems to be happening beneath the waves. Our global oceans appear increasingly imbalanced and the relationships between the Whale and the wider ocean ecosystem appears to be changing. This one off documentary will explore our history with these 'monsters of the deep' it will take us from our prehistoric relationship through to the mass whaling of the industrial revolution to the global moratorium on whale hunting through to today and ask the big, and sometimes uncomfortable, questions; Why do we only protect the whale and no other marine species? Does this serve to help them at the detriment of other marine creatures? And are our policies of marine conservation still fit for purpose?
